Symbiotic Tattooing

Over the past nine years of tattooing I have come across a very special event that frequently occurs during the designing and application of a tattoo. I have had multiple clients come to me wanting a memorial tattoo, maybe for a loved one, or a tough life circumstance, or even a big life transition such as a divorce, battle with cancer, or a victory through weight loss. As we work through their perceptions attached to this event and find a way to express them in the image, a new kind of healing emerges. There is just something emotionally significant about wearing your thoughts or feelings in a piece of artwork externally rather than carrying them on your heart. Even the pain of the tattooing process itself seems to bind the life event into the image. Or in the case of a joyful incident, it somehow concretes that experience in a new and more permanent way.
